What do you do when you feel a cold/bug coming on?
I’m still in weight loss mode not maintenance mode. But when i travel i switch to somewhere between the two.
So for the past week i’ve felt this bug trying to flare up into something nasty. I immediately switched to more of a maintenance phase, and even ate what ever i wanted the other day (with the exception of still getting enough protein). I pay attention to my body and try to figure out what healthy things it needs for fuel. When it comes to illness, I can’t quite pin it down. Perhaps it’s fructose. On a weekly biases i don’t eat fruit. But i know my body is screening for something. Most likely rest. So here’s to taking it easy so i can get well and start up my weight training schedule again. I still do the 4mile walk just not the resistance training.
All i know is my tonsils are flaring up like mad which is what happens when my immune system has had it. So here i am giving myself my own advice, but I’m excited to hear what you all have up your sleeve (that is a weird phrase).
-drink pleanty of fluids tea, water, salad shakes (not juice unless it’s grapefruit)
-stretch for 2 hrs a day (who has that kind of time? but at the same time who can miss 8hrs of work?)
-keep the protein intake high
-lay off the dairy
-take non dairy probiotics
-extra vit C, selenium, vit E, vit K, vit D
-rest (hardest one, but best thing, not the pay the bills kind of rest, but the anti stress rest with a book or your favorite show)

I think plenty of rest is key. I went through a crazy phase a few years ago when I worked out every single day. I even worked out when I was sick, and I just wouldn’t get better.

Good point. I’m finding that is the same with me. My immune system is just not there and hasn’t been for a long time. I’ll take it easy but I’m cutting the sugar out. Tends to just feed whatever it is that I’m fighting off. I know there’s a study about how sugar weekends your immune system. I watched a college seminar on it. Fascinating.

I haven’t stopped by for ages – sorry about that! Hope you are feeling better. I can’t even remember the last time I had a cold, but rest and fluids are the way to go.
